Press Release September 2010:
The historic collaboration between Marin rock star Bob Weir and the Marin Symphony will not take place on Oct. 22 as previously planned.
The symphony announced on Wednesday that the "First Fusion" concert, an evening of Grateful Dead songs arranged for orchestra, has been "reluctantly" postponed due to lagging advance ticket sales.
"While it is a disappointment in view of the efforts already expended by all involved, including the transcription of the music and other important factors necessary to make this a top-flight evening, it was felt that postponement was realistic and in the best interest of both parties," said Noralee Monestere, Marin Symphony executive director.
Weir, former guitarist-singer for the Grateful Dead, had been working on symphonic arrangements of Dead songs with Italian composer-arranger Giancarlo Aquilanti.
A new date will be announced, "probably some time in the late spring of 2011," a symphony spokesperson said.
Tickets for the one-night-only concert, a benefit for the symphony's performance and education programs, had been priced from $50 to $350
Credit cards have been refunded. Mail orders have been returned.
